I've combed through the internet and found 10 things that you can make with very little fabric and only basic sewing skills - but that look impressive as presents and cost next to nothing to make.
Add some great gift wrapping ideas (see my upcoming post on this topic) and you have something that will please the recipient and leave you heaving a sigh of relief that you pulled another rabbit out of the hat this year! (All photos are property of the blogs linked)
1. Sew this easy (and very pretty) iPhone case from Dog Under My Desk . You could make this with scraps from your stash!
2. I love these 5 Minute Key Fobs from Crazy Little Projects!
3. Heather Bailey's gorgeous and easy Hooray For Headbands would be a great gift for pretty much any girl and woman on your list! And the pattern is free to download.
4. Why not start a tradition of gifting a handmade ornament each year? These Rustic Burlap Trees from SewAndDipity would be a wonderful addition to any tree.
5. A rag doll for the little girl(s) on your list is sure to be a hit. Here's a simple rag doll I made for our neighbour's beautiful daughter.
6. The little boys (Who am I kidding? Even the teens I know would get a kick out of this!) would have painless battles and lots of imaginary play with these easy Safe Toy Pirate Swords from MakeBabyStuff.com!
7. For your favourite Star Wars-fan child, The Idea Room has these amazing Star Wars finger puppet patterns. You'll pay $4 for an instant download of the pattern, and every dollar store has felt for a song.
8. How about a table runner? Vicki Welsh (who used her own gorgeous hand-dyed fabrics) has the most easy-to-follow tutorial I have seen online, with impressive results. I think that pretty much any fabric would look terrific here, so you can tailor-make it to the recipient and it'll still look wonderful.
9. You can sew an ottoman to suit any decorating style....they look impressive, but are super simple to throw together with this great ottoman stack tutorial from Jo-Ann Fabrics.
10. Last but not least, most of us have a not-so-secret love for blank journals, so why not dress one up like this great fabric journal cover tutorial from Bloom and Blossom?
